Introducing a different kind of warmth

A story in every material

TYGE -5

Plant-based nylon fabrics. Colour from onion skins. Down from one farm in Jutland. TYGE -5 brings these materials together in a down sleeping bag for hikers, climbers and bikepackers heading out in the cooler months.

A contoured hood, thermal collar and shaped footbox support comfort after a day on the move. Each bag is filled and finished at Nordisk’s own manufactory in Germany, with production linked to the farm’s annual down supply.

Follow the materials from their source to the finished sleeping bag, and discover the choices behind TYGE.

From source to sleeping bag

Follow the thread.

The fabric, the dye, the down and the work that brings them together. Follow four stories behind TYGE, from the source of its materials to the finishing table in Germany.

01 / The fabric

It starts with plants

TYGE’s shell and lining are made from 100% bio-based nylon derived from castor beans. Plant-based feedstock replaces the conventional fossil-based source of the nylon.

Both fabrics use a lightweight ripstop construction. The result is a technical nylon fabric with a different starting point, designed for use in an outdoor sleeping bag.

02 / The colour

Colour from onion skins

TYGE’s golden-brown tone comes from a natural dye made from Hokkaido onion skins.

The dye gives the shell and lining their distinctive colour, adding another material origin to the story of the bag. The colour is part of the design, and its source is part of what makes TYGE different.

03 / The insulation

One farm. A clear origin.

TYGE is insulated with CRYSTAL DOWN® Single Farm Edition: an RDS-certified blend of goose and duck down sourced from one farm in Jutland, Denmark.

Working with a single farm also means working within its supply. The amount of down available each year determines how many TYGE sleeping bags can be produced.

04 / The craft

Filled and finished by specialists

At Nordisk’s own manufactory in Germany, each TYGE is individually filled, finished and quality-controlled.

This is where the materials become a finished sleeping bag. The filling and finishing process draws on Nordisk’s specialist knowledge of down products, with attention to the details that shape comfort and everyday use.

Behind the name

A name rooted in curiosity

TYGE is named after Danish botanist Tyge W. Böcher, whose research explored how plants adapt to their environments, including the Arctic.

His work inspired the Nordisk design team. Naming the sleeping bag after him connects its plant-based fabrics with a curiosity about the natural world.
