Your Companyon. Our heritage.

Light down jackets you can always bring along

Companyon is Nordisk's series of ultralight down jackets, a down coat and down vests for women and men. The first Companyon came out in 2009. The idea then was the same as it is now: a down jacket that weighs and takes up so little that it can always come with you, whether in your backpack on a hike or in your bag on a cool evening in the city.

For Autumn/Winter 26, Companyon is back with new fits, updated zips and colours taken from Nordic nature: Black, Black Coffee, Blue Mirage and Tibetan Red. The five models weigh between 187 and 399 grams, are filled with Crystal Down® 95/5 800+ and have an outer fabric made from 100% recycled nylon.

Nordisk Fjer

It started with down

Nordisk was founded in Copenhagen in 1901 as Nordisk Fjer, the first Danish company to focus entirely on down and feathers. Knowledge of down has been our starting point ever since.

Down sleeping bags sewn by hand

Since 1983 we have made down sleeping bags by hand in Görlitz, Germany. Our experience of keeping in warmth with as little weight as possible is what Companyon builds on.

The first Companyon

A down jacket for your pocket

Companyon launched in 2009 as a series of light down jackets and down vests that could be packed into their own pocket. The series quickly became a favourite with our customers.

We opened Die Manufaktur, our new production and service site in Görlitz. This is where we sew down sleeping bags by hand, with the same knowledge of down that Companyon builds on.

The insulation

Crystal Down® 95/5 800+

Down is not the same as feathers. A feather has a hard quill running through the middle. A down cluster has a soft core with fine filaments that trap air and hold in warmth. The larger the cluster, the more air it holds per gram.

Companyon is filled with Crystal Down®: European white goose down in a 95/5 blend (at least 95% down and no more than 5% feathers) with a fill power of 800+. A single Crystal Down® cluster can measure up to 4 cm across, and it takes up to 1,000 clusters to make one gram of fill.

The down is a by-product of the food industry and certified to the Responsible Down Standard (RDS). Each product is marked with a code that shows the quality and origin of the down.

The outer fabric

Next to Nothing®

To hold down, a fabric has to be dense enough to keep the down inside and thin enough to let the jacket breathe. Next to Nothing® is Nordisk's own outer fabric, developed in Japan and woven from 100% recycled 10D nylon from Toray.

The yarn is ten times thinner than a human hair and woven with more than 60,000 weave points per square inch (2.54 × 2.54 cm). The density of the weave is what makes the fabric downproof, and a fine ripstop pattern makes it stronger. The fabric is wind and water repellent and treated with a PFAS-free DWR.

Creases from packing smooth out while you wear the jacket, and small marks can be wiped off with a damp cloth.

Packable

Packs into its own pocket

Every Companyon model packs into one of its own zipped pockets. Packed up, the jacket takes up so little space that it can stay in your backpack, ready for a cold morning in the mountains or a windy evening by the harbour.

Creases from packing smooth out when you wear the jacket, because your body heat evens out the fabric. The pocket is for the trip, not for storage: between trips, hang the jacket on a hanger so the down keeps its loft.

Care

How to look after your Companyon

Air and shake

Air the jacket after use. If the down has been pressed flat, for example across your back after a day with a backpack, shake the jacket and gently squeeze the chambers so the down spreads out again. Often it is enough to let the jacket air outside overnight.

Wash rarely

Follow the care label in the product: a 30 °C gentle wash with a down detergent. Tumble dry on low heat with 3 tennis balls so the down does not clump. Small marks can be wiped off with a damp cloth.

Store uncompressed

If the jacket stays compressed for a long time, the down loses loft. Only pack it into the pocket when you are on the move, and hang it on a hanger between trips.

Down coming through

If a feather tip pokes out, pull it out gently. If a down cluster pokes out, take hold of the fabric from the inside and pull it back, then rub the fabric lightly so the weave closes again.
